The Writing's on the...Cake

I'm pretty sure you're all used to seeing writing on a cake (Happy Birthday, Congratulations on the Baby, etc., etc.)  However, you rarely see it on a wedding cake.  The designs are usually so intricate and elegant, that writing "Congratulations on the Wedding" would seem so out of place.

Recently, I've noticed a few cool ways to include writing on a wedding cake that truly stand out...

Fondant Lettering
(Bonus points for adding a hint of color to the all-white design).

  Graffiti-like Design
This cake is covered in descriptive words and expressions that tell what life as a married couple is all about (Love, Friendship, Family, Trust, Fun, etc).

Vows in Calligraphy
I love the idea of including aspects of your vows (such as love, honor, cherish) on each cake tier.

Slogans/Sentiments
You can add a slogan, song title, or even briefly tell the story of how your love came to be.

PTE Wants to Know: Are you a fan of wedding cakes with writing, or does it downplay the sophistication of what a wedding cake should be?  What else can you think of/have you seen written on a wedding cake?

XOXO,
Nikola

Wedding Dress-Inspired Cakes

Fashion is often a huge inspiration when it comes to the look and feel of a wedding.  Trends such as ombre and color-blocking are a couple of the most recent trends that have trickled down to the wedding world.  Another way brides are incorporating elements of fashion into their wedding is by choosing a cake inspired by their wedding dress!

Take a look at these cakes that were designed based around the fabric/patterns of the bride's gown:

If you're undecided about what you want your wedding cake to look like, maybe you will consider turning to your wedding dress for inspiration.

PTE wants to know: What do you think of cakes designed to match your wedding dress?  Would you consider it, or would you want the cake to have a completely different design? Please leave a comment below.

Cake Alternatives: Part II

In yesterday's post, I was so hyped about the cake "push-pop" shooters since they are such a fresh, new alternative to the traditional cake.  However, there are so many other fun and unique alternatives if you're looking to give your guests a little something different:

Who doesn't love pie?! Make sure to have a variety of flavors for guests to choose from...

Donuts are such a fun idea. I've seen a lot of these babies popping up on party tables lately!

If your budget allows, you could serve individual mini-cakes.  These are so elegant and chic...

Cupcake towers are also a great idea. I love this pink and orange with damask combo...

People love options, so why not create a dessert table filled with options? Oh yeah, and their super cute and can be designed to fit your theme/color scheme...

The same thing goes for candy buffets.  They can add the perfect amount of color and playfulness...and let's face it: candy is not just for kids!

Until next time, happy planning!
